How accessible is YARD?

YARD - Ambient Jade - www.thombartley.com-54.jpg

Unfortunately, YARD is currently not wheelchair accessible and, due to our contract with the developers, we are unable to make structural changes to the property. MAIA is a Disability Confident Committed organisation and we know that in order to build a community that is truly for us and by us - that must include everyone. In future projects where we have more autonomy over the building, we will be integrating accessibility into our design from the very start.

Entering YARD

There is wheelchair/pushchair access from the front and back of property; there is one step from the road to enter the property - we have a portable ramp at YARD.

Toilet

We have a ground floor toilet which includes a sink. the width of the door to access it is 1m.

There is another toilet on the first floor, and two ensuite toilets on the second.

Stairs

From the ground floor to the project room & music studio there are 15 steps.

From the ground floor to the ensuite bedrooms, there are 30 steps in total.

Parking

There is vehicle access from Icknield Port road onto Rotton Park street, and plenty of free parking available there.

YARD serves as the first phase of a larger development project, ABUELOS. We want to use this time to learn and explore how we collaboratively design and embed infrastructure in the neighbourhood that is accessible. If you are looking to book at YARD and have mobility issues then please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our absolute best to make the reasonable adjustments to make YARD work for you.
